Bleary-eyed and barely awake, Taylor Pierce was not ready to start a new day. In fact, there was nothing he wanted to do more than curling back up in his bed and refuse to reemerge until it was the afternoon. After all, he was the son of Urania, the muse of Astronomy. Being a night owl was in his blood. However, he wouldn't find Tyche granting him such luck anytime soon. He was a cabin leader, he needed to make sure that the others in the muses' cabin got their rears in gear and did whatever they needed to do before the day ended. Well, that morning he had succeeded in waking them all up, but he knew that some of them probably fell right back asleep the moment he had turned his backs on them. It didn't matter to him, he was too tired to care, but at least they all knew that there would be some hell to pay if they slept through breakfast and it was Taylor's job to keep track of who showed up.
So, that's why Taylor looked like he had just downed the draught of living death from Harry Potter. His hair was unkempt and his bright orange camp shirt was wrinkled beyond recognition. Taylor could barely muster the energy to remember to give curt waves to the people who greeted him as he wandered into the mess hall and headed straight for his cabin's table. You could forget about him saying anything to them. He was going to need at least 15 minutes and some strong coffee before he could even dream of doing that without sounding like an ogre. He took his usual seat at their empty table. So far, it looked he was the only one from the muse cabin to make it to breakfast, unless, of course, they were making an offering at the central brazier. He didn't hold much hope for that notion though.
After downing a few gulps of the bottomless coffee that the golden goblets in the mess hall offered, Taylor decided that it was no good to waste the quiet atmosphere and pulled a little battered black notebook from his back pocket and began scribbling away in Ancient Greek. Anyone who knew him knew that this was his "creativity" notebook, but in truth, it was just a collection of word vomit and stream of consciousness. It was just his way of getting his brain to sputter into action for the day ahead. He was so focused on the task in front of him that he didn't even notice that a wood nymph with a plate full of food had approached him until the wafting smell of sizzling bacon invaded his senses. Graciously, he loaded up his plate and then promptly set it aside, wanting to reabsorb himself in his work. He could wait a few minutes to give some of it up as an offering, it's not like the gods were gonna care that it was somewhat cold.
It was a shame that Taylor was so focused on that little notebook. If hadn't been, he may have had a chance to stop his train of thought from being derailed by the footsteps that he had failed to notice were coming his way...

Elise had been up late tinkering, which quite frankly was normal for the daughter of Hephaestus, in fact it was rare that she didn't stay up late working on something. While she was tired, she was still a cabin leader, and that meant she was responsible for getting her cabin prepared for inspection before breakfast began at the dining pavilion. Hephaestus kids aren't exactly known for being neat, so it was always necessary to get up early to get the rest of her siblings in gear to get it cleaned up. Once everything was in line with the cabin, the teen decided she had earned her breakfast and gave a reminder to her siblings that they were expected to be at breakfast as well. Quill put on her usual outfit of a camp shirt, jeans (she'd never wear shorts, no matter how hot it got), her Docs, chakram bracelets and a military green jacket she's had since she arrived at camp years ago and made her way over to the dining pavilion. The sun had been up for a few hours and already it was a decently warm temperature that threatened to get hotter, though that may have just been the camp's weather. Nevertheless, the demigod was used to hot temperatures considering the pyrokinesis her father had gifted her with, a fact her mother wasn't fond of when she was growing up. It wasn't exactly commonplace for your baby to set itself ablaze with no clear warning. Luckily with her mother being a legacy of Trivia Elise had fireproof clothes, courtesy of her mother's magic. The redhead sat down at the currently empty Hephaestus table with a sigh, knowing her siblings would most likely take their sweet time getting to the dining pavilion as they usually did. The teen thanked the wood nymphs as they brought over her preferred breakfast of hot cakes, bacon and toast then asked her goblet for chocolate milk, her favorite breakfast drink, she wasn't really a coffee person, the ADHD was enough energy for her. As the demigod ate her breakfast, more of her cabin gradually began filling in the empty spaces around her. For whatever reason Hephaestus cabin always seemed to have a plethora of demigods, and Elise refused to think about how often her dad slept with mortals to have that many children. Rather than focus her attention on the conversations being had by her siblings, Elise noticed who she thought recognized as the cabin leader for the Muse kids (thinking back to council meetings she was fairly positive his name was Taylor) writing in a small black notebook. Curious, the redhead stood up from the Hephaestus table, bringing the bacon and bit of pancakes she had set aside for her offering to the brazier, saying a silent prayer to her father before coming back around to the table that the children of the Muses sat at. The teen decided the best way to approach the other demigod was to scare him, especially considering he looked like he was ready to fall back asleep judging by the nearly dead, zombified look he had on his face. Elise crept up behind Taylor slowly, a wicked grin on her face as she got as close to his ear as she could without alerting him of her presence. " What'cha doin'?" she commented, raising her voice so he'd hear her outside of the world of the notebook that at first glance looked to be written in Ancient Greek, considering it soon auto-translated for the girl, though she couldn't quite make out the words at this distance. Taylor should have known that the quiet wasn't going to last very long, but he sure wasn't expecting it to be ruined quite like this... "Jesus!" He exclaimed as he was startled and he instinctively turned around. He was expecting to see one of his cousins, after they finally dragged themselves out of bed, smirking over his shoulder, proud that they managed to scare the living daylights out of Taylor. He supposed that's what he got for not paying attention, but then again who can blame him for not doing so? The cabin leader was so visibly groggy that anyone could see that he was clearly off his game and those who lived with him would not be an exception. (Forget Achilles Hells and Hubris, Urania kids' fatal flaws were simply mornings.) However, when Taylor got a decent look at the face of the person who thought they were oh so funny, to his surprise it wasn't some Thalia kid grinning back at him, but instead, it was a Hephaestus kid.
Taylor sort of knew Elise, but not that well in all honesty. Once every couple of weeks she would see her at a cabin leader's meeting, but it wasn't like that was a real friendly get-to-know-you kind of even anyways. Plus it also didn't hurt that they didn't really cross paths often outside of those meetings. After all, what reason did Taylor have to go to the forge? Or why would Elise come up to the art studios up at the academy? They were just not the kind of people who would run into each other often. So, it was safe to say that this sleepy star boy had no idea why she would bug him like this.
But he was still friendly nevertheless. "Hey Elise," Taylor said before reaching for the goblet again, desperately trying to force himself to wake up. It took him a moment to realize that her question to him was about the little black notebook out on the table. Without him realizing it, his face reddened a little from the embarrassment of being asked to share. Granted, if she snatched the little book away from him, she wouldn't find anything warranting this kind of reaction, but since the notebook was something he used to work through his thoughts... It really was just like an extension of his own mind to him and truth be told, anyone would be a little flustered if someone openly asked to pick apart their minds like that.
"Ah, nothing important. Just some ramblings from yours truly," He said quickly as he moved to close the book. After this was done, he turned back to her and started up some small talk since his mind was finally beginning to clear. "So, how has your group been? No disasters I hope?" He finished with a small smirk to himself. Every cabin leader had their stories and Taylor doubted that Elise was hardly going to be an exception to this.

Elise raised a brow at the blaspheme from another Pantheon that her fellow camper used, " You really must be tired if you're shouting about another Pantheon in a camp full of Greeks." she noted with a laugh. The redhead watched with a wicked grin as the other demigod composed himself, her morning made by a successful scare. It wasn't a usual habit of hers, but it did give her something to do. The demigod glanced back over at her table, making a note of which of her siblings hadn't made it to breakfast, it was never good to work the forges without food, and she'd make sure to bring them something later. The teen flashed her grin at the boy, " Taylor, good to see you." she replied to his greeting, " Thought you might need a little bit of waking up before you joined the dead and were pulled to the Underworld." she explained, emphasizing just how tired he looked, what did Muse kids do that kept them up so late? Of course, Elise didn't really have anywhere to talk, she herself had been up pretty late working on a personal project, but she wasn't the one looking like she needed to board Charon's boat here. Quill quirked a brow when Taylor's face when red, whatever was in his little black book must have been pretty personal, which meant she probably shouldn't pry. " Alright, I'll drop it, I'm sure it's just some weird Muse kid stuff anyway." she replied, half hoping the taunt would convince him otherwise, but she knew that she really shouldn't care, despite her curiosity. At the other demigod's question, the teen smirked, " Oh there are always plenty of disasters with Hephaestus kids." she replied truthfully, " Though I will say they've significantly decreased after I implemented a new forge safety plan a couple weeks ago, the only real recent disasters have been from the younger kids." she explained, a proud smile on her face. A lot of her siblings didn't have any training in any sort of forging before coming to camp, half of them didn't even have basic mechanic training, and rather than leave them to fend for themselves and blow up her forges, Elise decided it was best if she began a little program to introduce them to basic forge practices. It was a long process, but she didn't have nearly as many inexperienced siblings doing Zeus knows what in the Forges. " Any disasters that do happen," she added, " are pretty easily contained by myself and the other senior campers." she elaborated, " Most of the time it's something minor, like a fire, but that's pretty easily shut down when you're immune." she added, conjuring a small fireball in her open palm as she talked to emphasize her point, then snuffed it out by closing a fist over it. " What about you?" she asked, returning the question, " I'll admit I've never really thought about what could go wrong with your cabin, I feel like there's slightly less danger." she added.
