Astrid smiled at the other demigod, " Hopefully well," she replied, " it'd be a shame if this were only a one time thing." she continued, " My spaghetti can fix anything, however, so I don't think it's even possible for this to end poorly." she finished with a smirk. The blonde had gotten friends that hated spaghetti to like her signature dish, no one had ever disliked it, and all bowls were finished by the end of the meal. " Besides, your training went well, and anything that starts well generally ends well." she added with a smile. The training had really been both helpful and fun, which in Astrid's book meant it had gone well. The girl nodded, " Her disliking you honestly makes me dislike her more." the girl admitted, " You're a nice person, just because you have a position of authority doesn't mean anyone should dislike you." she continued, " She is definitely not on my good side if she's going to act like that." she finished. Astrid's bad side was not something anybody wanted to be on. Despite her usual nature, being on her bad side meant you basically meant that you were cut off, no reaction, no interaction at all, which wasn't really the best for someone also in her Cohort she supposed. Hawke laughed when Axel giggled in response to her punching his shoulder. For whatever reason the teen couldn't help but laugh whenever the other demigod did, the laughter seemed to be contagious. " Did you both fight a lot as children?" the teen inquired. From what her friends with siblings always told her, there was always something to fight about when you had a sibling, no matter how well you got along with each other. When Axel mentioned having some pull, the girl gasped in mock offense, putting her hand to her chest dramatically, " You mean you'd use your influence to help your brother?" she exclaimed, " How entirely corrupt, I'm appalled!" she finished, dropping the act and breaking into a fit of laughter. The demigod mirrored the other demigod's smirk, " Just because I'm not a Venus kid doesn't mean I don't know how to dress." she retorted, laughing when he mentioned that it had been a struggle to get the pants on, " Are the pants too small, or are you too big?" she quipped, her smirk growing into a wicked grin. The blonde tilted her head to the side when Axel explained what his 'not so good' news was, " That's what your not so good news was?" she answered, her grin staying on her face, " That's awesome though, I'm really happy for you!" she replied, genuinely happy that Axel had gotten the promotion. Even if she had only known him for a week, the teen was proud that he had advanced in the Legion, from what she could tell, he deserved the position. " Have they chosen who will be the other Praetor with you?" she asked, realizing that he had said praetors plural meaning both had stepped down and that they needed two replacements. Axel Laughlen

Axel gazed at Astrid, mesmerized by her optimism in this whole situation. Here she was a week after getting to camp and already acting so normal. The boy smiled, “I have no doubt that this won’t be just a one time thing.” He continued, “Hey, as long as that spaghetti can fix me being hungry, I’m all for it.” The blonde had a point with their training session, it had gone extremely well; Astrid was able to keep up with the more experienced demigod since she was already an athlete. “I mean, we’re probably gonna end up napping in a food coma, and that’s a pretty damn good ending to me.” Axel winked at the girl.
The boy blushed a bit as Astrid became defensive over him. It wasn’t the normal way girls got defensive over him, usually just wanting to deter other girls from him, never taking his personality in account. Other girls had usually just seen him for his looks and didn’t care how he acted around them. This caused Axel not to care as much what he did around them, but he was careful with Astrid, knowing she had a lot more depth. Axel had a newfound respect for this demigod.
Axel’s face turned a bit serious after Astrid laughed just after he did and she asked if him and Brett had fought a lot as kids. The story was a bit sad, actually. “Not exactly. The other guys at school used to bully us because we attracted a lot of girls… Thanks to mom’s powers, but we didn’t know that at the time.” Axel explained. “Kids would call us gay just because we were usually friends with mostly girls, but the guys were just really jealous.” He had gotten off topic, but brought the story back to his point. “Anyway, we practiced with each other almost every day so we could defend ourselves. We rarely fight at all, actually.” The demigod returned to his smiley, cheery self when Astrid made a scene of his influence. “Oh please, don’t tell me you wouldn’t do the same thing.” He chuckled at the girl’s show.
Axel threw his hands up in protest. “Hey, I didn’t say that! Not all Venus kids have the same taste.” Instead of taking offense to the girl’s insult, Axel retorted, "The booty just got thicc since the last time I wore these.” He touched his pants with his hand, remembering he had magical power over clothes, and made them a size bigger to accommodate the muscle he’d gained. An unsure look settled over Axel’s face. “Thanks, it’s a real honor and was a bit unexpected. But I’m excited with what I can do with the legion.” He continued. “But it might take away from my free time to hang with you, which makes me kinda sad…” He innocently looked at Astrid, feeling a bit exposed with his feelings that he generally didn’t show to anyone. He shook his head. “No, they’re waiting for someone to stand out.”

Astrid grinned, " I'll have to make sure to keep my weekends open then." she replied, glad that she had already managed to make a meaningful connection with Axel. " Promise you'll actually taste the spaghetti when you eat it." she joked, " It's not good if you're just using it as a means to stop being hungry." she added, her face flushing at his next comment. " I don't know about you but the nap will be well deserved, there's no way I'm stopping at just one bowl of spaghetti." she commented with a smirk. One bowl would never satisfy a girl with a metabolism as fast as hers. Hawke raised a brow at Axel's blush, but decided not to prod on the issue, " How exactly should I go about working with her, considering we're both in the fourth cohort?" she inquired, hoping the other demigod would have some advice due to his experience at camp already. " I mean, you're a Centurion so I guess you could probably just tell people to stop and they have to listen to you, not that I'd expect you to abuse your power like that, but I don't really have a way around this." she explained, rambling a bit when she realized her initial statement could have been perceived as offensive. The blonde frowned as Axel told his story, " Children are mean, I can't believe they'd bully you and Brett over something as trivial as that." she replied, " Incredibly homophobic too if they decided you were gay because of it, I'd expect them to know most gay men tend to hang out with other men." she added, pointing out an obvious flaw in their bullying tactics. " I think it's admirable that both of you took the initiative to stand up to them." she admitted, " Hey, I don't have any siblings to do that for...at least not yet." she retorted with a smile. Astrid laughed at Axel's reaction, " I'm just saying that I don't need to be related to you to have a sense of fashion you dork." she replied, laughing harder at his next statement, " The thicc booty isn't exactly a bad thing." she commented, unable to keep a straight face just because of the way he had delivered his statement. The blonde scrunched her nose and began walking the path to New Rome, " Well I doubt you'll always be busy on weekends," she began, " plus there's nothing in the Legion's rules that says I can't hang around you when you're doing work from the Praetor's quarters, right?" she suggested, " Or I could just work hard and become a Centurion so we can spend more time together." she added with a shrug. " Who would you pick as your co-Praetor if it were up to you?" she inquired as they approached the bustling markets of New Rome, the teen looking around to see which storefront would be best to buy from. Axel beamed as Astrid said she’d keep her weekends aside for him. It was exactly what the boy wanted, seeing as he’d need a stress relief from the legion and she seemed to be the best kind with the amount of laughter they shared. Axel rolled his eyes dramatically. “Fine, I’ll be a spaghetti connoisseur for the day if that’ll make you happy.” His remark may have sounded like a joke, but seeing as how serious Astrid was about her spaghetti, he would actually taste her meal. Again, the girl’s large appetite came up in their conversation, as Axel remembered how fast she downed the last meal they had together. “You have no idea how much I admire a girl who can eat.” The boy grinned.
The older demigod pondered Astrid’s question. “Well, you could just ignore her unless you absolutely need to say something to her. Just keep it to things about the cohort, is my advise.” While Axel was unable to do anything about the issue unless something serious arose, he wouldn’t hesitate to tell Isla off if she pissed Astrid off enough. Lightening the mood, Axel smirked. “I mean, I could always just use my charm-speak on her. Then she wouldn’t have a choice but to be nice.” The boy hoped the other demigod picked up on his joke, as he most likely wouldn’t abuse his powers in that way.
Axel shrugged. “We were used to it. No guy would come close to us because, being the awkward middle schoolers they were, everyone was unsure of the whole “gay” thing.” He gave a small smile as Astrid commended their toughness. “We had to do something, and we found it kinda fun, anyway, hence why we’ll both be in the legion soon.” As much as Axel loved his brother and would do anything for him, he wished he wouldn’t have to stand up for him here. He prayed that he would navigate Lupa’s training with ease and be able to hold his own. “A couple will probably show up at some point, not to worry.” He reassured the other demigod.
“Ah, well you are a girl, I guess it makes sense. Either way, you pull of the style well. And it’s a good thing you’re not related to me, or this would be awkward…” Axel gave Astrid another once over, loving the way she looked in all black. He grinned wide. “I’m glad you like it, princess.” He made a kissing noise with his lips in Astrid’s direction. Since Astrid decided to call him a dork again, he decided to bring back her nickname he gave the girl during their tour of camp. Axel’s mind raced as he absorbed all of the girl’s suggestions about how they would be able to hang out more during the week. "You can come by anytime you'd like, of course." A devious smile emerged on his face as the pair wove their way in and out of the crowd. “Oh, the things we could get away with in my quarters…” He made eye contact with Astrid. “The door has a lock, there’s the couches, carpet, an empty desk…” He snapped out of his fantasies. “Or, uhhh, that too. Work hard either way, ha.” Axel pointed to the outdoor market under a pavilion off to the side of main street and let them in that direction. He shrugged, not really caring for another praetor now that he had the quarters all to his own. “I don’t know I haven’t put any thought into that yet.”

Astrid stuck her tongue in response to the 'spaghetti connoisseur' remark, " I promise you'll like it." she commented with a smile, " We'll probably have to get a lot more than I normally use, because I'm sure you'll be wanting more." she added with a smile. The blonde blushed at his next comment, " My high metabolism is to thank for that," she responded, " I could eat my entire weight in pasta and not gain a pound." she continued, " Which is good, because I really love pasta." she added with a laugh. While most girls her age avoided carbs like the plague, the demigod counted them among her favorite foods. " Oh!" she exclaimed in revelation, " We should definitely also get bread for this, bread goes great with spaghetti." she explained with a grin. Hawke nodded with a sigh, " Right, ignore her and don't try to talk to her about anything personal, got it." she echoed. The blonde was talkative, which would make it a bit difficult, but she didn't plan on interacting with Isla outside what she needed to anytime soon. The teen laughed at Axel's suggestion that he could use charmspeak, knowing that he wouldn't actually do that, " Funny, and cute, but you don't have to do that..." she replied, trailing off a bit. Part of her was happy that Axel would do that, but she also knew he wouldn't abuse his power like that. The teen scrunched her nose, " You know its a bad situation when someone says they're used to it." she commented, knowing all too well what it could be like because she grew up without a mom. Having an NHL player for a dad didn't protect you from not having a mom to give stuff to on mother's day. " I'm glad you'll both be together now," she replied, " Brett will finish training with Lupa and he'll be here in no time." she reassured him with a smile. " I wonder how often gods actually interact with mortals." she wondered aloud, " Actually, no I don't, don't need to think about that, nope." she added quickly, ending that train of thought before it led to dark places. Astrid rolled her eyes, " Technically we are related, just not as half siblings." she corrected him, " Though from what I've been learning about the Mythology we're very, very, very, distantly related because my mom is the daughter of Pallas and Styx, and Venus is ocean foam from Uranus. Which makes my grandmother a river I guess?" she explained, getting a bit off track with the river bit, " Point is, it's totally not weird." she finished with an awkward smile that soon dissolved as she punched the other demigod again for calling her princess. As Axel made eye contact with her and began to describe where he wanted to do things in his quarters, fully registering the implications he was making, the blonde turned beet red, coughing before she finally replied, " Y-yeah, plenty of places to do plenty of things." with zero of the confidence the teen had before, a large part of her wanting to explore what he mentioned the way he had implied, but her surface not being able to register properly due to the immense amount of eye contact she was on the receiving end of. Shaking her head she decided to divert the topic to his other question, " At least you know it wouldn't be Isla." she replied, poking a bit of fun at the earlier bit of their conversation as she followed as he led them to the outdoor market. Axel listened to the girl ramble on about her spaghetti, and he was tickled by her passion for the dish. It must have been a real big deal with her family and friends for her to go all out. The boy assumed he added to the pressure with this being a first date and all. He nodded enthusiastically at wanting more pasta, not only had he worked up an appetite, but he couldn’t let Astrid of all people out eat him. “Lucky, I can only allow for one cheat day a week or the pounds will pack on in no time.” Axel tried his hardest to eat healthy, but sometimes he just had to work out a bit more, which he didn’t really mind. “Yeah! There’s a bakery in town too.” He smiled, returning Astrid’s excitement.
Axel shrugged, it didn’t seem to be too hard of a task not to talk to Isla, seeing as how she didn’t seem to start up any pleasant conversations herself. The girl just put a sour taste in the demigod’s mouth, and it most definitely wasn’t from kissing her. You’d have to pay Axel to do that. The boy grinned when Astrid complimented his joke of a suggestion. He was really starting to feel like he was making some headway in an emotional connection with the blonde, something she had mentioned was important to have actual feelings for him.
The boy nodded sadly, making a flat line with his mouth, not sure what else to say on the topic. It wasn’t a fond memory for the twins, but at least they were past that stage in their life. Either way, he felt a little better by telling Astrid. The story just seemed to fall out of his mouth. No one except their sister knew that about them. What was happening to Axel? His more serious emotions were typically locked up. Astrid had some soothing effect on him, and he felt comfortable telling her some of his secrets. Axel returned her reassuring smile. “Me too, it will be better for the both of us. I miss him like crazy.” Laughing a little, Axel responded, “Yeah no, the gods are crazy, don’t put yourself through that.”
Axel scrunched up his face at the mention of the two even being remotely related. He covered his ears like a child not wanting to listen to his parents chastising him. He snapped back into attention when Astrid mentioned that her grandmother was a river. “Wait then that makes my great grandfather, like, space or something? Shit, this hurts my head.” The demigod gave the girl a side-eye with raised brows. “Yeah ok my relatives being water is totally not weird. Let’s just not think about our lineage...” Oh no, not this time. Axel wasn’t going to let Astrid get away with a punch again. Plus he was still a bit sore from the last ones. With quick reflexes, Axel grabbed her fist in his large palm, stopping it before it hit his shoulder. “Ha, nice try princess.” He smirked, tossing Astrid’s fist back down to her side.
Making people uncomfortable in sexual situations could be another power of his at this rate. Axel thought it was cute and innocent of Astrid to have the reaction to his comments that she did; turning bright red and hesitating before her reply. Although, Axel could tell she really wasn’t opposed to his ideas, figuring she would have shut them down immediately if she didn’t want to at least try. Knowing she wanted to move on from that topic for now, he answered the girl’s remark. “No way I would ever work with Isla.” The boy grabbed a bag to put all the ingredients in at the entrance of the market as the pair walked under the pavilion. He would hold the bag as long as Astrid picked out everything they needed.

Astrid raised an eyebrow at the other demigod's response, " I don't think it's a 'cheat day' if you spent the entire morning working out." she pointed out with a smile, putting the term 'cheat day' in air quotes. It wasn't as though they hadn't already done plenty of physical activity for the day. The blonde grinned when the other demigod mentioned that there was a bakery in New Rome, any place that had a steady supply of fresh bread was good in her book, " That's perfect, I like French bread for spaghetti, but if there's another kind of bread you prefer we can get that instead." she replied, still beaming at the taller demigod. Hawke decided it would be best if she put strategies to deal with Isla on the back burner for now, knowing that interaction with the other girl was most likely inevitable, but if the blonde played her cards right she could get through the week with minimal amounts of difficulty regarding interpersonal relations. If Isla antagonized her, she wouldn't respond, though she may mention it to Axel just so he could keep tabs on the less than friendly demigod that was in the same cohort as her. The teen dropped the topic because of the look on Axel's face, it was probably already hard enough for him to tell her judging by the solemn look he wore on his usually happy face. The girl felt good knowing that he had confided in her about it, seeing as though it gave her the sense that he trusted her despite only having known her for a week. The blonde grinned at Axel's mention of himself and his brother being together again, " You still have to introduce me to him," she reminded, " I'd love to be able to see one of your famous schemes in action." she added with a smirk. Astrid scrunched her face in return, mirroring Axel's, listening as he noted that his great grandfather was space, " If I read correctly your great grandfather is the void, but your grandfather is the sky, if that makes a difference." she replied, " But that's also just kind of what they personified, they're not always what they represent." she noted, laughing when he commented that his relatives being water was weird, " I meant us...dating or whatever you want to call this isn't weird because we're barely related, you dork." she replied, sticking her tongue out. The blonde pouted when Axel caught her fist mid punch, " Hey!" she complained, " You deserved that for the princess comment." she reasoned, her pout staying on her face as he released her fist. Hawke was glad that Axel chose not to continue his previous train of thought, especially considering that it turned Astrid into a tomato just by the power of suggestion. The teen made a mental note to bring up what he had said later, even if just to reassure him that she hadn't been opposed to the idea. It had just surprised her that he so talked about it so casually in public if she was being honest. Despite only knowing the other demigod for a week, she could tell she was already becoming emotionally attached to him romantically, a feeling that she wasn't opposed to. " I don't think they'd make her Praetor anyway, considering her issue with authority." she agreed with a nod of her head. Seeing that the other demigod had grabbed a bag signaled to Astrid that she could start her search for all of the ingredients she'd need to make her dish. Humming a song under her breath, the blonde first made her way over to a stand that boasted fresh herbs, looking for the oregano that would season her sauce. Finding the green plant didn't prove to be too difficult, and she grabbed the small amount she'd need to garnish it before spotting a stand with spices that she made her way over to. The teen picked out standard kitchen sizes of salt, sugar, and parmesan garlic seasoning that had originally been meant for popcorn, she wouldn't be using this much at once, but it'd be nice to have a supply for the future. Now all she needed was enough Angel Hair pasta to serve at least three and a half people and a few jars of the three cheese pasta sauce she always used and they'd be set. Axel Laughlen

Axel slowly nodded, thinking about her point for a moment. “That’s true, but you can never work off a bad diet.” He paused, smiling. “I just can’t eat junk food all the time like some people can without gaining any weight.” Typically younger guys could eat whatever they pleased without gaining an ounce, but that wasn’t Axel. He worked for the body he had by working out and eating well. “You’re the cook, so you must know best.” He smiled down at the shorter demigod beside him.
Brightening up at Astrid’s request to meet his brother, he explained a few things about Brett. “Of course! Brett’s a lot like me, obviously, and we’re probably the best versions of ourselves when we’re together. Without him outside of camp, it just feels like I’m missing a part of me.” He couldn’t wait for his brother to be done with the wolf house. Axel just hoped Brett would like the legion as much as he did. “Oh yeah, there’s gonna be a lot of those, and they're gonna be great.” he added, shooting Astrid a devious look. Axel purposely left out the detail that him and Brett were identical twins, hoping maybe he’d catch Astrid off guard one day and be able to pull a prank on her with Brett.
Axel really didn’t think about his mother’s side of the family, not nearly as much as Astrid did, that was for sure. All he cared to know that his mom was his mom and that he wasn’t too closely related to Astrid to be… with her. “I’m gonna be honest with you, that just went in one ear and out the other. All that shit confuses me.” he said with a smirk. He didn’t want her to think he didn’t care about he research, though. “But it’s cool that you looked into that, otherwise us going out would definitely be weird.” He laughed as the girl stuck her tongue out at him, and laughed even harder when she pouted. “You’re cute when you’re mad.” he commented with an innocent smile. Disregarding Astrid’s claim that he “deserved” the punch, he decided to get back on her good side.
Happy that Astrid understood his sadness and dropped the topic of his childhood, he listened to her comment about Isla. “No, they definitely wouldn’t make her Praetor with the way she responds to authority.” he agreed. Axel wondered who his counterpart would be in the legion. It would have to be another girl, as there had to be one male and one female praetor. He’d have to spend a lot of time with her, so he hoped Astrid wouldn’t get too jealous, or the other girl would… temp him to look elsewhere. Axel knew the position would have to be filled at some point, but for now, he would enjoy being alone in his quarters.
As soon as Axel got a shopping bag, Astrid took it as a sign to take off. The boy didn’t care, he knew nothing about the girl’s recipe and was happy to follow her around the market, watching her scour the rows of food with ease. While following her, Axel made sure to pick up the few snacks he liked to keep in his room, including apples, granola, and popcorn. He’d be paying for the food anyway, might as well get his personal shopping done too. As the bag began to fill, he inquired, “Is this all you need?”

Astrid shrugged, " It's hard to play hockey if you don't have a carb heavy diet, the sheer amount of calories you burn on the ice is more than most people consume in a day." she reasoned, half wanting to justify her carb filled diet. " Besides, I work out enough to make up the difference." she added with a smile. She worked hard to stay in shape, and didn't intend on stopping. " French bread it is then, you have a bread knife I assume?" she asked, knowing he probably didn't, but it was worth a try. If anything they could use a regular knife. Hawke grinned when she saw how happy Axel got when talking about Brett, happy to see him happy, " He sounds really great!" she told him sincerely, " I can't wait to meet him when he gets back, hopefully Lupa won't be too hard on him." she continued with a smile. " Promise to include me in some of them?" she asked, " I can make for a great distraction as I proved in training." she added with a smirk, hoping her question wasn't crossing a line seeing as it was normally something he and Brett would do together as brothers. The blonde rolled her eyes, " You're the one that told me to make myself more familiar with the Roman deities." she pointed out, " Also I wasn't only checking to make sure us going out wasn't weird, I have a genuine interest in learning more about my heritage." she added. The teen had always found genealogy fascinating, but she always had half her tree missing because she didn't know who her mother was, her father just knew her as Tori Laurel in the brief time they were together. The other demigod's comment about her being cute when she was mad brought back her blush, her pale cheeks shading red as she stuck her tongue out again in defiance. The teen nodded, " Are Praetors always one male and one female?" she inquired, " We didn't really discuss how politics work in depth in our tour." she noted with a smile, genuinely interested in how it'd work, while also starting to feel a bit of jealousy if it was always a male and female Praetor. Judging by her reaction before he had even confirmed that it'd be a male/female pairing the blonde already liked the other demigod more than she had initially thought. Astrid bit her lip, " All we should need is the angel hair pasta, the sauce and that bread from the bakery you mentioned earlier. she replied, " I don't recall seeing jars of sauce or pasta." she noted, scrunching her nose as she looked around the market for what she needed, " It won't be good if I don't have the three cheese pasta sauce." she explained with a frown, hoping they'd be able to find what she needed. The Angel Hair would definitely be easier than the sauce, but she had faith that she'd be able to find what she needed. Axel Laughlen

“Guess you’ll have to work out more to make up for not playing hockey as often.” Axel pointed out. Although there wasn’t an ice rink in camp, he was sure he’d heard of one being in New Rome. The older demigods had to have some form of entertainment without having to go into the mortal world too often. At Astrid’s question, the demigod rolled his eyes. “Do I have a knife? We just fought with them for hours, don’t you remember?” He raised a brow, surely that was a rhetorical question otherwise Astrid would get an earful from the boy. Why would he of all people have a bread knife, anyway, he knew just as much about cooking as he did rocket science.
The fact that Astrid was so excited to meet his brother made him even happier. “Hopefully, but at least I know he’ll be well trained.” Axel was surprised when Astrid asked to be included in some of their pranks. Most people thought what they did was silly, but the twins had always enjoyed themselves. They hadn’t included anyone before, but Axel couldn’t see why Brett would say no to having someone else around every now and then. With a laugh, Axel responded, “Yeah we could always use a good distraction. You’re pretty irresistible, so you’ll definitely work.” He added a wink at the end, knowing that his flirting usually resulted in a cute blush from the girl.
Axel chuckled as the other demigod went on about her research about the Roman deities. “I meant at least the basics, like the bigger gods and their powers, but I guess their entire lineage works too.” When Astrid arrived at camp, she didn’t even know that Venus was the goddess of love. She’d come a long way since then already. Axel could tell anyone about the basic gods and goddesses no problem, and even some of the titans and minor gods, including their powers and backgrounds, but he definitely couldn’t go as far back as to who birthed them.
Here Astrid was already asking about the other Praetor, and if they would be a girl or not. Axel knew she wouldn’t be pleased with the answer, as he could tell part of he probably asked out of jealousy. “Yes, that’s how it works, at least in my knowledge.” Axel had never heard of two of the same gender praetors being in service at the same time, although he was sure in times of emergency there could be a stand in. Unfortunately for Astrid, she would eventually have to deal with the fact that Axel would be working with another girl every day. The older demigod was able to tell Astrid really felt for him already, or she probably wouldn’t have worded the question like she had. Axel didn’t blame her, as there was often an unspoken romance going on between the praetors in service more times than not. If what he had continued with Astrid, however, he would make a point not to get too close to the other praetor.
Bringing his thoughts back to shopping, Axel listened to Astrid fret over not seeing pasta and tomato sauce. “If I remember correctly, I think there’s an Italian section in the other side of the market.” Without waiting for a reaction from the girl, he walked past her and led them to a hidden corner in the back of the pavilion. From the looks of it, the tables seemed to carry everything Astrid would need. He turned around and looked at her with a smile, seeking her approval in his find. “Is this good?” he questioned.

Astrid scrunched her nose in response, " I really feel like an ice rink would benefit camp." she replied, " If the entire legion was able to fight well on ice, then they'd be even better off ice." she pointed out, feeling as though her time on the ice had made her much more agile than she would be if she hadn't. " Though considering we don't have ice, we could always work out together." she suggested. The blonde rolled her eyes, " We are not using your daggers to cut food you dork." she replied, shaking her head, " I'm not cutting bread with a dagger that you've most likely stabbed someone with." she justified, making a stabbing motion. " Not to mention I doubt they're serrated, which is necessary to cut bread." she pointed out. " We're getting an actual bread knife at the bakery." she decided. Hawke laughed, " The way you just described him made him sound like a dog," she pointed out, " then again Lupa is a wolf and wolves are a type of dog so you may not be wrong." she added with a smile, hoping Axel realized she was joking. " Besides, if he's anything like you it shouldn't be too difficult for him." she commented with a grin. Axel was more than capable of getting things done, and she wouldn't be surprised if Brett was the same way considering their childhood. The blonde blushed at the other demigod's compliment, " Well hopefully just standing there and looking pretty will be enough of a distraction." she replied, " I could just wear my workout clothes and we'd probably be fine." The teen scrunched her nose, " If I only looked up stuff about major gods I'd know nothing about my mother." she pointed out, " It was actually hard to find information about her in most of the stuff we've got, she's rarely counted as 'important' enough it seems." she added with a slight frown, putting 'important' in air quotes. Her mother had helped Jupiter from what she had found but half the time she was barely a footnote. " I've also apparently got some aunts and uncles directly from my mom." she commented, " There's Potestas; the god of strength, Invidia; the god of rivalry-he's different from Isla's mom, and Bia; the goddess of force." she finished, feeling a sense of pride of her godly side of the family. The blonde frowned slightly, " Well...whoever it is I'd hope would keep things professional, I mean it is a job." she replied, hoping Axel would keep things professional as well. Gods, Astrid did like the other demigod if she was thinking like this. It was all still a bit of a foreign feeling to her, but a pleasant feeling nonetheless. She wondered if Axel could tell from the way she was talking, figuring he might have a bit of a clue due to his mother's influence. Then again it wasn't as though Axel himself was dense, especially when it came to stuff like this. Astrid cocked her head to the side as the other demigod mentioned an Italian section, ironic considering Rome is in Italy, and followed as he made his way through the busy market. The teen grinned wide at the taller demigod in a show of silent approval before scanning the tables, finding the sauce she needed quickly, grabbing four jars or so " It's better to get more now than have to come back later." she explained, justifying the large quantity as she placed them carefully in the bag, then going to a table filled with different types of pasta and grabbing four boxes of Angel Hair and placing them in the bag as well. " Now, I believe we just have to go to that bakery and we should be done." she said, smiling at the other demigod, " Do you have access to the Praetor's Quarters already?" she asked, " I'm not really sure where else I can cook this." she clarified. “I can agree with that, I’ve never been ice skating before, so maybe you’ll have to teach me.” Axel felt that it was typically the guy teaching the girl how to do things, but with Astrid, he didn’t think he’d mind it being the other way around for once. Plus, he didn’t think he’d be that bad, nothing was harder in his opinion that being able to balance on a surf board, so how hard could ice skating really be? The boy sighed and rolled his eyes. “I have stabbed many things with my daggers, but I keep them cuh-lean.” he whined. It was true, Axel had to clean them after battle, he didn’t want blood and slime on his precious daggers anymore than the next person. “A blade is a blade, I’m sure they’re sharper than anything you could buy. I’m not paying for another knife.” He stuck his nose in the air and crossed his arms, but not able to help but stifle a laugh as he knew he was being dramatic.
Axel laughed much harder than he probably should have. “Yeah, that’s because he’s my bitch.” He continued laughing. “Guess he’ll be even more of one after Lupa’s done with him.” he smirked, buying into Astrid’s joke. He stopped laughing, taking in a deep breath to recover from his laughing bout. “Oh yeah, kid’ll be fine, I don’t know why I was worried before.” If they could make it through middle school with bullies, Brett would probably be alright at holding his own. Seeing the blush on Astrid’s face was all Axel needed to smile and keep going with his compliment. “It’ll be more than enough, believe me.” Quite a few times Astrid had almost caught the boy off guard as he was distracted by her body in the midst of swinging blades at each other.
The older demigod patiently listened to Astrid, as many things in books failed to capture his interest. But if it made her happy, then he guessed he’d have to suffer through it. “I’ve never heard of any of them. I don’t think I could do as much research as you though, the dyslexia would kick in and give me a headache, like, two words in.” Axel avoided reading like the plague for that reason, plus once he did get past the reading disability, he generally fell asleep from boredom.
Just judging by Astrid’s frown, Axel could tell this was a sore subject already. While it was reality that there would be another praetor, he couldn’t blame the blonde too much. If roles were reversed, which he was glad they weren’t, the boy would be protective too. Axel usually knew how to keep things professional, but sometimes fell short. His main example being with Astrid on their tour. He probably shouldn’t have flirted with her right off the bat, but it just happened. Things just seemed to “happen” a lot being a son of Venus, it was quite literally in his blood. Instead of replying seriously, Axel decided to crack a joke. “For her sake I hope so, I don’t need you beating anyone up.” He grinned, looking down at Astrid.
Axel watched as the blonde dumped more food in the bag. “Put any more in here and I think it’ll break.” Just to be sure, the boy adjusted his grip to hold it by the bottom. Nodding as Astrid mentioned that all they would need was the bread, Axel walked over to check out and pay for the groceries, giving the cashier the appropriate amount of aureus. He rolled his eyes to Astrid, smiling to make sure she knew he was kidding. “This meal’s costing me a small fortune, this better be the best damn spaghetti I’ve ever had.” With the bagged groceries, he willed a wind spirit from camp to come take the food, just like he would in the cafeteria to bring a meal. Nodding, he smirked. “Sure do, and there’s a decent kitchen for you too.” Axel hadn’t thought to go into the Praetor’s Quarters for this, but it was obviously the best and most private spot for the two. Once the wind spirit was on it’s way, Axel led Astrid into the bakery just a block away.

Astrid smiled, eager at the possibility of teaching Axel something that she's passionate about, " So long as you still teach me how to surf, it's a deal." she agreed. She'd have to ask her dad to send over her skates, and see about getting Axel some hockey skates too, she doubted he'd like figure skates very much, and hockey skates were easier to balance one. The blonde rolled her eyes, " I don't care how clean you keep them, there have been bodily fluids on your knives, and I'm not getting any diseases from them." she reasoned. " Then I'll pay you back for the bread knife, I don't have the right currency here, but maybe I can get you a smoothie or something from the mortal world." she bartered, hoping he'd take it. Hawke couldn't help but laugh more, " Y'know that actually explains a lot about your relationship with your brother." she joked, " I'm sure Lupa will get him legion ready in no time." she reassured, " Especially considering his experience with you and those bullies, he'll do just fine." The teen smiled, " Well that's good, because I'm not sure if I'd be all that great at flirting with someone that isn't you if I'm being honest." she admitted, she had never really been good at flirting in general, but for some reason it was easy to do with Axel. The teen shrugged, " Most of the stuff I was reading was in Latin, actually. It's easier to learn a language when you're actively reading in it, and a lot of it seems to kind of auto translate for me in some places." she explained. She herself had dyslexia as well, and reading in Latin was actually easier than English at this point. It was freeing to not feel as burdened by the learning disability that she had grown up with. Astrid laughed, " For some reason I feel like beating up a Praetor probably wouldn't be the best course of action." she replied. She wouldn't do that anyways...probably. " Except for punching you of course, though I'd like to think I get a free pass on that." she added with a smirk. It's not like she ever hit the other demigod hard enough to actually hurt him, and he had stopped her the last time. " Maybe when they appoint whoever it'll be we can do lunch or something, I'd love to get to know who you'll be working with." she suggested. Hawke stuck her tongue out, " This is way easier than having to buy more later, this way we can have spaghetti whenever we want." she reasoned, knowing that having the ability to make the dish would make her want it more. She'd have to be careful with how much she used though if it meant having to take a trip to New Rome every time she needed more ingredients. " Oh, it will be, after you have my spaghetti you won't want to have anyone else's." she boasted, her friends back home had said the same thing after having her signature dish the first time. The blonde watched as a wind spirit came to take the groceries back to camp, that must have been handy. The teen grinned, " Perfect, I don't think I could make this without a proper kitchen." she replied. The girl followed the taller demigod's lead to the bakery, the amazing scent of baked bread overcoming her senses as they neared the store. Axel Laughlen

Axel nodded. “Of course.” The boy was most at home at the beach, and he remembered Astrid had never been. He was excited to share something special to him to her. At Astrid’s long rant about how she would most definitely not use Axel’s daggers to cut the bread, the boy gave an equally long eye roll. “Suit yourself.” He smirked, at least liking her idea of buying him food from the mortal world. Axel could never say no to someone buying him food, except maybe Astrid, but it was a fair trade. No one insulted his daggers and got away with it, even his pretty date. “Smoothie? Açaí bowls are the thing now, they’re way better.” Axel argued, smirking. They were among one of his favorite foods along with pancakes and pineapple pizza.
The boy cocked a brow at Astrid’s comment. “What’s that supposed to mean?” he asked with a laugh. For the most part, the twins didn’t think one was better than the other. Unless it came to the legion, seeing as Brett wasn’t yet in it. Nodding, Axel though back again to how ruthless the boys had become because of the bullies. Sure, they fended them off, but school still wasn’t great for the twins. That was about the time Axel left for the Wolf House and Lupa. He wished nothing more than for his brother to have come with him that day too. Axel let out a loud laugh. “Ahh, thanks mom, you’re the best!” He pointed up at the sky as if she were watching down on him. It was all thanks to Venus obviously that Axel was a natural conversationalist and flirter, which more than likely made Astrid comfortable around him. Or she just really liked the other demigod. It was probably a mixture of both.
“That’s what’s so great about being a Praetor, I hardly have to read English anymore, and that happens to me too.” he nodded in agreement. Axel then shook his head, a slow smile creeping on his face. “No, but if push came to shove, I bet you would.” he paused, smiling even more now. “There’s a lot of things you have a free pass on when it comes to me…” The praetor gave Astrid a sly side eye, hoping she would pick up on his drift without feeling too uncomfortable. They were going into his quarters alone later, after all. He idly wondered if a relationship with one of his legionnaires was even allowed. “Alright, ask and you shall receive. Civil lunch with the new praetor it is.” He winked, assuming she only said she would love to meet his counterpart just to be able to keep her in check.
Accepting Astrid’s reasoning for jam-packing their bag with far more sauce and pasta than they could eat themselves, Axel opened the door to the bakery for the blonde. “Hmm, maybe I’ll just have to keep you around for your pasta.” He pretended to stroke his beard and smirking. Picking up a french baguette, the boy felt it to make sure it was soft and fresh. Though he didn’t know much about cooking, he did know good from bad bread. Tossing it on the counter, he handed the cashier money once more. A wind spirit came and took the bread right off the counter, whisking it back to camp. He turned to look at Astrid, smiling. “Alright, all that’s left before we eat are the tattoos. You still up for that?” Axel hoped so, as they agreed to pick out one for each other, and the boy had a feeling she would really like what he’d chosen for the girl.

Astrid smiled, she was excited to learn how to surf, and if it meant she got to teach Axel how to ice skate, it was even better, " So do you want to teach me how to surf first?" she replied, " We'll probably have access to the ocean before we have access to an ice rink." she reasoned. The blonde shrugged, " If you'd like to cut your bread with your dagger, you can go ahead, but I'm using a culinary knife." she replied. The teen raised an eyebrow, " How does an Açaí bowl replace a smoothie?" she questioned, " I mean, I'll still buy you one, but you can drink smoothies." she elaborated. Hawke laughed, " I mean you're clearly the leader in a lot of the stuff you both do, such as joining the legion first." she explained, hoping the other demigod understood what she had meant. The blonde couldn't help but laugh at Axel's exclamation, " Clearly this is all the work of your mother and not at all that I'm comfortable enough around you to find you attractive." she quipped, " Obviously only she could influence my ability to like you." she added with a smirk, hoping the other demigod would catch on. The teen nodded, " It's kind of weird that we can read Latin, but I'm not sure I'd actually be able to speak Latin." she pointed out, " Okay if the other Praetor attacked me first for some reason, yes I would fight back, I don't really see any other situation in which I'd have to do so." she replied, avoiding his implication that she would fight out of jealousy, " Well I would beat them in a competition if they challenged me to it." she added as an afterthought. Praetor or no, Astrid didn't back down from a challenge. At Axel's comment, she raised a brow, " Care to elaborate on what I have a free pass on?" she replied, wanting him to tell her exactly what he meant. The teen smirked, " Yes civil lunch, I promise not to interrogate whoever it is." she replied, echoing the other demigod's emphasis on civil. Astrid laughed, " Only for the pasta?" she questioned with a raised eyebrow, " Good to know you have enough faith in me that my spaghetti will be good if you're keeping me for that." she joked. The blonde watched as the wind spirit carried the bread away then reverted her attention back to Axel when he spoke up again, " Yeah!" she replied with a grin, " I've got the card my dad gave me, but how do you plan on us getting there?" she asked, knowing they'd need transportation to get into the mortal world, and she didn't really see anything in camp yet. The teen figured the other demigod probably had a plan considering how much he seemed to be looking forward to the tattoos. Axel Laughlen
